Oz Joins Foley in Rejecting Public Financing

February 2nd, 2010

STAMFORD, CONN – Tom Foley, candidate for Governor, released the following statement in response to Oz Griebel’s decision not to participate in the Citizens’ Election Program:

“I was glad to see Oz join me in not accepting public financing for his campaign. I have repeatedly called on all candidates running for Governor to not accept public financing. Candidates for Governor can not credibly show responsible fiscal leadership if they start off taking up to $4.5 million of taxpayer money to finance their campaign. Taxpayer dollars should not go towards campaign commercials nor political consultants, particularly when so many of our citizens are out of work.

“Potential campaign contributors should keep in mind that every $100 they send to a gubernatorial candidate taking part in public financing will increase the state budget deficit by up to $1700 at a time when our state budget is hundreds of millions of dollars in the red.”
